ECB set for second straight rate cut as economy stagnates 

 The European Central Bank is likely to lower interest rates again on Thursday, arguing inflation in the euro zone is now increasingly under control and the economy is stagnating.
The first back-to-back rate cut in 13 years would mark a shift in focus for the euro zone’s central bank from bringing down inflation to protecting economic growth, which has lagged far behind that of the United States for two years straight.
The latest economic data is likely to have tilted the balance within the ECB in favour of a rate cut, with business activity and sentiment surveys as well as the inflation reading for September all coming in slightly lower than expected.

DHS Offers Protections for Lebanese Nationals Currently in the United States 

 The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is announcing new actions to provide temporary immigration reprieve to eligible Lebanese nationals currently in the United States and allowing them the opportunity to request work authorization. Included in today’s announcement are details related to the Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Lebanese nationals as previously announced in July, and a planned new Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Lebanon.After consultation with interagency partners, Secretary Mayorkas is announcing a new TPS designation for Lebanon for 18 months due to ongoing armed conflict and extraordinary and temporary conditions in Lebanon that prevent nationals of Lebanon from returning in safety.

Watchdog files FCC complaint against CBS over ’60 Minutes’ edit

The Center for American Rights (CAR) on Wednesday filed a formal complaint with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) against CBS News over its allegedly misleading edit of a “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Multiple Republican politicians have urged the network to release the full unedited transcripts of the appearance last week, after the vice president’s answer in a clip promoting the interview differed from the answer in the full interview that aired. House Speaker Mike Johnson has also accused the network of “selectively editing” his interview.
The center said its complaint is not about “one” instance, but of broader “significant and intentional news distortion.”

“When broadcasters manipulate interviews and distort reality, it undermines democracy itself,” he continued. “The FCC must act swiftly to restore public confidence in our news media.”
The complaint called for the FCC to force CBS to release its transcripts of the interview, citing a long-standing FCC precedent that broadcasters “may not engage in intentional falsification or suppression of news.”

That Fox News Interview May Have Done To Kamala What The Debate Did To Biden

What happened Wednesday night to Kamala Harris on Fox News may have been the equivalent to what happened to President Joe Biden at that infamous debate in June — irreparably exposed her as unacceptable to voters.

Gallego’s petition for divorce stipulated that the “parties’ marriage is irretrievably broken” and that “there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation.” But Kate Gallego appears to have been blindsided by her husband’s decision. When she responded to her husband’s filing in February of 2017, she said she was “without knowledge of information sufficient to form a belief” about her husband’s claim that the marriage was broken beyond repair—and she denied the allegation. 
The newly unsealed file also shows that Gallego wanted his wife to foot the bill for the divorce proceedings, stipulating that he was “entitled to an award of attorney’s fees” pursuant to an Arizona statute allowing a court to award attorney’s fees based on several factors.

 

Biden admin slapped with major lawsuit over alleged refusal to help state purge noncitizens from voter rolls

 The state of Florida is suing the Biden administration over what it claims is a refusal to verify immigration records so that the Sunshine State can ensure the integrity of its voter rolls and prevent noncitizens from voting.

  the state argues that DHS is mandated to respond to an inquiry from state or local governments seeking to verify the immigration status of anyone in their jurisdiction for a purpose authorized by law.
“Because the federal government is refusing to comply with these obligations and frustrating Florida’s ability to maintain the integrity of its elections, Florida files this suit,” the lawsuit says.
Florida says it “has an obligation to maintain accurate and current voter registration records” and also notes the impact of the crisis at the southern border, which brought millions of noncitizens into the U.S.

 It argues that it cannot track and maintain immigration information on its own. States can verify status through a DHS program called the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program. According to the lawsuit, DHS and Florida have an agreement to allow the state to use SAVE to verify immigration and citizenship status for people on the the voter registration rolls.

The lawsuit claims that Florida’s Department of State identified a number of individuals for whom it had evidence that they were not citizens, but couldn’t run a search via SAVE as it doesn’t have unique identifiers.
