The CEO of what watchdogs are calling the “wokest insurance company” in America once declared that a North Carolina bill to keep men out of women’s bathrooms posed a “threat to democracy.”
Chubb Corporation CEO Evan Greenberg blasted Republicans over the 2016 measure, according to video unearthed by Consumers’ Research. Chubb, which operates in 54 countries, is the largest commercial lines insurer in the United States.
Greenberg’s comments resurfaced in a “woke alert” distributed Thursday by Consumers’ Research to more than 100,000 people and first shared with The Daily Wire.
“The rights of individuals, including our personal freedom and right to pursue happiness, are a universal right. We protect them. Actions like those in North Carolina and other states to discriminate against sexual preference and strip citizens of their protections, do not reflect who we are as a nation, and are ultimately, I believe, a threat to democracy,” Greenberg said at the time.
The legislation in question required people to use public restrooms corresponding to their biological sex. It was designed to prevent men identifying as transgender from entering women’s facilities. The law also barred local governments from enacting so-called nondiscrimination ordinances that allowed men into women’s bathrooms.
“After all, where does it stop? This is something we’re speaking about, and that’s why I’m speaking out about it,” Greenberg said during an April 12, 2016 speech at the Chubb Leadership Forum in San Diego.
“Chubb prioritizes pushing a woke agenda to such an extreme extent that it’s earned the title of ‘wokest insurance company,’” Consumers’ Research executive director Will Hild said. “Chubb should be focused on delivering the best insurance policies for its customers, not carrying water for repulsive ideological causes.”
The watchdog group on Wednesday launched a national campaign against Chubb, including TV ads, mobile billboards outside company offices in Washington, D.C. and New York City, and a letter demanding that the Treasury Department investigate the insurer’s DEI practices.
The Chubb Charitable Foundation has previously donated to The Trevor Project, an LGBT activist group that promotes transgender ideology to children. The corporation also scored 95% with the Human Rights Campaign, boasting about “intersectionality training,” gender transition guidelines, and other transgender-inclusive policies.
Chubb’s website emphasizes diversity initiatives with resources like a “Race Fluency Toolkit” and “Race Matters” platform to push what it calls “greater consciousness of racism and understanding of the Black experience.”
“We believe in being anti-racist because a rejection of racism alone is insufficient,” the company states. A 2021 interview with a Chubb executive further underlined that “diversity, equity and inclusion are the foundation of our Chubb culture.”
Chubb has also pledged to stop underwriting new coal plants or backing companies that derive more than 30% of their revenue from coal, aligning itself with climate activism.
Hild warned customers to think twice: “Doing business with Chubb is doing business with a company that has no problem fully embracing the most polarizing political agendas.”
