A consortium of fourteen prominent American urban centers is affiliated with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, an international climate organization with a globalist agenda. This organization has set forth an ambitious objective to be achieved by the year 2030, which includes the complete elimination of meat and dairy consumption, a restriction of three new clothing items per individual annually, the cessation of private vehicle ownership, and a limit of one short-haul return flight (less than 1500 km) every three years per person.
The objectives of C40, an international network of cities committed to addressing climate change, can be observed in its publication titled “The Future of Urban Consumption in a 1.5°C World” report. This report was initially released in 2019 and is said to have been reaffirmed in 2023. The organization is led and predominantly financed by Michael Bloomberg, a billionaire affiliated with the Democratic Party. The group comprises around 100 cities globally, including American representation from Austin, Boston, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and Seattle.
There has been a limited amount of media coverage regarding the targets set by C40 Cities. The limited number of media personalities and news sources that have engaged in discourse on the subject matter have encountered significant criticism from corporate entities responsible for fact-checking. AFP Fact Check asserted that the purported prohibition on meat and dairy products, along with the imposition of restrictions on air travel and garment consumption, ascribed to conservative pundit Glenn Beck, were, in fact, not policy recommendations.
The AFP cites a passage from the original report titled “The Future of Urban Consumption in a 1.5°C World,” which states that the intention of including more ambitious targets in C40 cities is not to endorse their widespread adoption. Instead, these targets are provided as reference points for cities and other stakeholders to contemplate when evaluating various emission-reduction options and formulating long-term urban visions.
However, the inclusion of this language in the report, maybe intended to address potential criticism, appears to contradict the definition of “target” in this particular context, which refers to a “desired objective.” The objective of achieving the elimination of meat, dairy, and private vehicles by 2030 is founded upon a prospective perspective of resource-efficient manufacturing and substantial alterations in consumer preferences, as highlighted in the paper. The authors of the report evidently aspire to facilitate the realization of this vision. If these objectives were not their primary aims, they would not have designated them as “ambitious targets.”
The assertion made by the “fact-checker” regarding the lack of sincerity in C40 Cities’ expressly stated climate goals is unpersuasive, particularly considering the ongoing implementation of these goals. In alignment with the 2030 objectives of C40 Cities, Mayor Eric Adams of New York City has recently declared the implementation of limitations on the consumption of meat and dairy products within city institutions, including schools and prisons. In recent developments, the United Kingdom has implemented a prohibition on the sale of newly manufactured automobiles fueled by gasoline beyond the year 2030. Similarly, France has enacted a ban on short-haul flights with the aim of reducing carbon emissions.
In 2020, the World Economic Forum, an organization that advocates for C40 Cities on its website, unveiled “The Great Reset.” This initiative aims to leverage the Covid-19 epidemic as a catalyst for a comprehensive worldwide societal reset, purportedly aimed at addressing climate change. However, this reset mostly pertains to the exertion of social control rather than its association with the climate. If leaders with a global perspective genuinely prioritized environmental concerns, they would refrain from utilizing private planes or possessing large, energy-intensive residences situated along the California coastline. This is particularly noteworthy considering the predictions made by climate advocates, who assert that these areas will likely be submerged in the near future.
According to a promotional video released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2016, it was asserted that by the year 2030, individuals would possess no material possessions and yet experience contentment.
Currently, there is a notable trend wherein hedge funds and affluent individuals are actively acquiring residential properties and agricultural land on a global scale. Simultaneously, the implementation of impractical zero-emissions policies is leading to the economic impoverishment of individuals in Western societies and the erosion of the middle class, thus fostering a greater dependence on centralized governmental structures. These deliberate regressive measures also have an ironic consequence of negatively impacting the environment, as wealthy nations have been shown to possess cleaner ecosystems and exert less pressure on natural resources.
Climate activists are also promoting the use of “climate lockdowns,” similar to the measures taken during the Covid lockdowns. Various proposals have been put out regarding the implementation of a climate lockdown, encompassing measures such as imposing residential confinement, limiting air travel, implementing a Universal Basic Income, and establishing an upper limit on income.
