Newly released court documents show that Cole Tomas Allen photographed himself inside his Washington hotel room just minutes before allegedly attempting to assassinate President Donald Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
According to filings from the Department of Justice, the 31-year-old suspect documented the weapons and tools he planned to use, including a shotgun, handgun, knife, and other equipment. Prosecutors say the image captures Allen fully prepared for the attack shortly before leaving his room.
Authorities allege that Allen closely monitored Trump’s movements online in the minutes leading up to the incident. Investigators say he viewed live updates and video coverage tracking the president’s arrival at the Washington Hilton, where the high-profile event was being held.
Court records indicate Allen left his room around 8:30 p.m. and approached a security checkpoint outside the ballroom. Prosecutors say he removed a coat concealing his weapon, raised a shotgun, and fired in the direction of a staircase leading to the event space.
