Federal authorities have arrested Jamael Lundy, a senior official in the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, for allegedly participating in a violent anti-ICE protest that stormed Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Lundy’s involvement had previously been highlighted by The Daily Wire, which identified him in video footage taken at the scene.

Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed the arrest on Friday, saying Lundy was detained alongside three others, including former CNN anchor Don Lemon. Bondi described the incident as a “coordinated attack” that violated federal laws protecting places of worship. Charges are expected to include conspiracy and violation of the FACE Act.
Lundy is currently serving as the intergovernmental affairs coordinator under Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty. He’s also a Democratic candidate for the Minnesota State Senate and is married to St. Paul City Council member Anika Bowie. In his current government role, Lundy acts as a liaison to the federal government and has previously drawn scrutiny for comments regarding race-based charging decisions.
Footage of the protest showed Lemon interviewing Lundy outside the church. Lundy admitted to being a state senate candidate and claimed he was present to support “community activists.” Once inside, he was seen leading chants and raising his fist as the mob accused the church’s pastor of being tied to ICE. Protesters shouted, “Who shut this down? We shut this down.”
The church raid has ignited national controversy, especially given the political positions held by some participants. According to his campaign website, Lundy previously worked for Congresswoman Betty McCollum, the Democratic House Caucus Campaign, the state teachers union, and Minnesota House Rep. Carlos Mariani. He also founded two businesses: Black Operations Public Relations and Homes for Homies Property Management LLC.
Lundy’s property company claims to serve tenants with criminal histories or poor credit and purports to profit from federal Section 8 housing subsidies. In a social media post, Lundy advertised a property at below-market rent, saying he was “open to all residents of all statuses” — a phrase many interpreted as including illegal immigrants.
The arrest of Lundy adds to mounting scrutiny surrounding Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty, who has faced criticism for leniency in charging decisions and close ties to radical activist circles. Lundy’s role as a federal liaison and his proximity to the ICE-related protest may intensify investigations already underway into Moriarty’s office.
Bondi emphasized that the Justice Department remains committed to enforcing federal law regardless of political affiliation. The arrests follow a broader federal effort to hold accountable those involved in escalating attacks on religious institutions and immigration enforcement operations.
