Tulsi Gabbard, previously recognized as a Democratic representative of Hawaii in Congress, has now announced her support for President Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential race. This support is particularly significant as it goes up against Vice President Kamala Harris. At the Detroit National Guard conference that took place on Monday, Gabbard expressed her views robustly.
Gabbard emphasized the importance of unity amongst Americans, expressing deep concerns over what she perceives as a detrimental shift towards a culture of political payback and misuse of power. She stressed that such a path could lead to negative implications for the country and posed a challenge for the politicians putting their own interests above those of the Americans, threatening their values and their future.
Her endorsement happens to coincide with the third anniversary of a hideous event – a suicide bombing that took the lives of 13 U.S service members, driving deeper the chasm left by the troubled withdrawal from the Afghanistan War.
Gabbard’s stance as an independent was clear as a bell as she stated, ‘Regardless of your venue, whether you lean Democrat, Republican, or maintain independence, I stand with you today.’ She went on to add that if one loves America and cherishes peace as much as she does, they should join her in her quest to ensure these values are retained and ‘elect President Donald J. Trump back to the helm to undertake this important task.’
Serving the second congressional district of Hawaii from 2013 to 2021 as a Democratic representative, Gabbard made waves when she declared she was leaving the party in 2022. Her departure was all the more notable as she denounced the party as an ‘exclusive sect of war advocates.’
Gabbard’s journey in the political field has seen many twists and turns. Running in the 2019 Democratic primary against Harris, she was later sought by Trump himself to aid in arguments preparation in the days before his September 10 face-off against the vice president. The venue for this event was the National Constitutional Center nestled in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia.
Harris’ previous actions became a point of contention for Gabbard. ‘Here we have someone who has incarcerated over 1,500 individuals over marijuana-related charges, only to make light of the situation later on, smirking when queried about her own potential use of marijuana,’ Gabbard stated during the debate with much disapproval.
Ever since her departure from the Democratic Party before the 2022 midterm elections, Gabbard hasn’t been shy about voicing criticism towards her former side. Appearances on conservative platforms such as the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and the Faith and Freedom Coalition Road to Majority Conference are indicative of her new political alignment.
Adding to the endorsement for Trump is the recent withdrawal of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. from his 2024 Independent presidential race. Much like Gabbard, Kennedy has chosen to back Trump, adding further intrigue to the already heated political landscape.
Kennedy expressed his disappointment and frustration with the Democratic Party during his withdrawal announcement, pointing fingers at them for waging unending legal battles against him and Trump. In Kennedy’s view, the party had conducted a ‘pseudo primary’.
Declaring his full support for Trump, RFK Jr. went on to state his intention of actively campaigning with Trump until the election. When viewed together with Gabbard’s support, this development could reshape the playing field for the upcoming 2024 elections.
