Giuliani Grounded, Mired in Scandals and Facing Legal Repercussions

It’s time for serious accountability to be imposed upon what could be termed as the ‘Trump 2.0’ cohort of alleged culprits. The visual memory of Rudolf W. Giuliani, often referred to as ‘America’s mayor’, elicits quite a few stark images. I remember him at Ground Zero but also recall his crude behavior in the Borat sequel and during press conferences. Primarily, I picture him indulging in his wine, inadvertently making phone calls to journalists on occasion, but primarily just enjoying his drink with a sense of nonchalance.

There was a brief period, however, during the late summer and early autumn of 2024, where this perception started to shift. On the second of July, he was denied the right to practice law in New York, owing to his incessant and unfounded falsehoods that tainted the integrity of the 2020 election — legalese for proliferating an outpouring of deceit regarding the voting outcome.

Just ten days after this, he faced yet another major setback. Another court dismissed his bankruptcy filing attempts in light of a $148 million defamation judgment. This was mainly due to his attempts at income concealment, specifically from sources such as his radio show, a book deal, and the launch of a coffee brand. Despite this, he had the audacity to spend a whopping $28,000 a month on condos.

Two months later, a similar legal rebuff came from Washington, DC. The court expressed purified disdain for his clownish declarations of obliviousness regarding the location of his valuable items. Additionally, he failed to own up to his responsibilities toward Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, two election workers whose lives were irrevocably marred due to his mendacious claims pertaining to the 2020 elections.

By the close of November, matters had escalated to the point where he was facing legal repercussions for contempt, due to his continuous defamation of Freeman and Moss. At last, it seemed that karma had struck. It appeared that these individuals, too, could face repercussions for their actions.

However, a simple scroll through his Instagram or Truth Social feed showed a seemingly unconcerned Giuliani visiting the Sistine Chapel. A man declared bankrupt, facing a $148 million defamation lawsuit, had managed to jet off to Europe

This leads to an inevitable thought: I would offer my full support and vote to any Democratic candidate vowing to vigorously prosecute all relevant members from the Trump administration. The promise of punishment as allowed by the law would be a significant factor in my decision.

Being born in the residual atmosphere of the Watergate scandal, I was close enough in time to be indirectly named after Jeb Stuart Magruder, the co-conspirator and Deputy Director of the Committee to Reelect the President. In my formative years, I often heard adults express their discontent surrounding Gerald Ford’s decision to pardon Nixon.

It shocks me how, during times of civil unrest, people support severe punishments for acts of protest, as if this imposition of consequences was absolutely crucial for the maintenance of a functional society. Yet when it involves those in positions of power in the United States, the conversation changes — disregarding legal standards to such an extent that it’s almost as if legal implications and potential prison time are inappropriate topics.

There’s a troubling humor that is often seen floating across social media, reinforcing two notions. The first being, this administration has discovered what seems like an open secret: they can seemingly walk away from countless wrongdoings unscathed. Secondly, it seems the only viable solution left is to ensure we turn the tables ourselves during the primaries.

A message to those navigating the tough terrains of a Democratic primary, either this year or the next: there are millions like me who will go to great lengths to support your cause if you promise to rigorously combat corruption. This includes every aspect, from judicial offices to local law enforcement, to every abuser who prides themselves on their impunity.

An unyielding stand against corruption, a commitment to cleansing our society from those who misuse the power vested in them and to imprison them for a duration that ensures their absence in public life: these are the pledges that will inspire undying support from the likes of me.

Expect nothing less than an army of supporters, prepared to navigate the harshest conditions to contribute financially to your campaign. We do this in the hope of a system finally holding these repeat offenders accountable for their abusive behavior.

Falling short of meeting such a commitment will only inspire the continuance of such autocratic behavior. Without serious repercussions, figures like Rudy will carry on toasting their success in foreign countries, mocking our system with every clink of their glasses.

So here’s to staring down corruption, to ensuring they face more than just a slap on the wrist. Here’s to a future that resounds with the noise of justice, rather than the echoing laughter of those who believe they are above the law.
