Hillary Clinton, a presidential candidate who was unsuccessful in two attempts, and her daughter Chelsea encountered a severe backlash on the internet subsequent to their expression of pride in receiving an Emmy award for their documentary highlighting the achievements of Afghanistan’s youngest female mayor.
The document entitled “In Her Hands” delves into the life of the youngest female mayor in Afghanistan, while also providing an overview of the nation’s historical background.
Hillary Clinton and her daughter served as executive producers for the Netflix documentary, which garnered them the accolade at the 44th News & Documentary Emmy Awards.
According to a publication by Huff Post, the film centers around the life of Zarifa Ghafari, who achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the youngest female mayor in Afghanistan’s history at the age of 26. She was active during the tumultuous period preceding the Taliban’s reclamation of the nation.
“As Western forces withdraw, Afghanistan’s youngest female mayor braves mortal danger to lead a fight for education for the next generation of Afghans,” the Netflix summary reads.
From The Hollywood Reporter:
At the ceremony, which the Clintons did not attend, it was not publicly revealed which individuals would be receiving statuettes for winning projects.
But David Winn, head of the News & Documentary Awards for The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, confirms to The Hollywood Reporter: “As executive producers on the film, [Hillary and Chelsea Clinton] are considered statue eligible.”
Hillary Clinton publicly expressed her satisfaction with her Emmy award victory on X platform:
“We just won an Emmy! I’m thrilled that “In Her Hands,” Hillary said.
