Insensitivity As The New Norm: Crockett’s Cruel Take on Abbott’s Disability

Can this really be considered the ascendancy of a rising star in Democratic politics? Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, who appears far younger than her 43 years due to her youthful yet overly frivolous nature, seems to think so. Bizarrely, she thought it was a good idea to mock Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s disability, a man who was injured in an unfortunate accident over four decades ago. Dubbing Abbott ‘Governor Hot Wheels,’ to the sickened laughter of an audience, is a staggering display of insensitivity.

Then, she felt the need to escalate the insult, declaring Abbott to be nothing more than a ‘hot-ass mess.’ One can only wonder, is this the behavior expected from the daughter of a pastor? And yet, her antics have somehow earned her the admiration of some sectors within the Democratic party. Does this distasteful comedy act reflect the party’s star qualities?

One wonders, where is the leadership within the Democratic party to intervene and pull the reins on this uncontrolled rhetoric? It appears that they are absent, seemingly unaware of the immaturity that is unfolding before their eyes. And Rachel Maddow, supposedly a beacon of progressive values, where is her indignation? Their conspicuous silence is a telling sign of a party in moral disarray.

Is it not evident that the Democratic Party is ailing internally, devoid of any sense of moral compass when no one, not even the most experienced of the lot, is willing to take a stand for what’s right? John Fetterman seems to be the lone voice of reason, but his principled stance has only led to him being disparaged and dismissed. Yet, amid the deafening clatter of self-destruction, his warnings have fallen on deaf ears.

There’s a growing discontent among the people towards these elitist attitudes which played no minor role in Trump’s victory. Barack Obama’s attempt to garner the ‘brotherly’ support for Kamala Harris exposed nothing but the desperate ploys to win votes. The high command in his own party had previously tried to rope his wife into the race, but were left with Harris instead.

And let’s not forget Kamala Harris’s antics. ‘Let’s just get through the next sixty-fow days,’ she said in a decidedly non-posh Californian dialect on the trail. One can hardly forget her attempt at mimicking Bob Marley on Stephen Colbert’s show. Can a UC Law School alum like Harris have the luxury to just fit in?

The lessons seem to have been lost on Joe Biden, who has forgotten the fact that not all black people hold the same political beliefs. His statement to Charlemagne in a 2020 interview, suggesting that if they couldn’t decide between him and Trump, they weren’t truly black, shows a gross lack of self-awareness.

In an already divided Democratic party, Jasmine Crockett, educated in some of the most elite private schools, and a Congresswoman, adds fuel to the fire with her disparaging remarks. Disrespectfully labeling an act as monumental as illegal immigration as ‘not a crime’ shows a complete disregard for national security.

She seems to misinterpret the definition of crime, nonsensically arguing that breaking the law by entering the country illegally isn’t unlawful. Could it be possible that she is unaware of the majority of Americans supporting stronger border regulations?

Crockett has praised Kamala Harris, calling her unsuccessful presidential campaign ‘flawless.’ Could it be that Crockett is out of touch with reality? Further going against the grain, she insulted Hispanics who supported Trump, asserting they have a ‘slave mentality’.

Not only have these insensitive remarks stretched the divide amongst the party members but they’ve also managed to alienate voters. Crockett insulted Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene with derogatory remarks about her appearance, a most unparliamentary conduct.

The tendency to insult also extends to Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, who received unmerited slander from Crockett. The sheer lack of respect for her colleagues paints a worrying picture of Crockett and by extension, the Democratic party.

The Democrats seem to be operating from a playbook entirely devoid of sense or sensitivity. Crockett and her ilk, their rhetoric consistently jarring and alienating, raise urgent questions about the state of the party. While they are apparently climbing the party ladder, their actions are doing more harm than good to the party’s image.

Making fun of colleagues, peers and completely distorting political discourse is not leadership; it’s a sign of a party rapidly losing its moral moorings. And when leaders like Biden, Harris, and now Crockett follow this path, it only further erodes the party’s credibility.

From Harris to Biden, and now Crockett, Democratic leaders seem to be tripping over each other in a rush to the bottom. Their comments are not only unprofessional but also deeply misaligned with the values they supposedly uphold. The Democratic Party needs to reassess its values and redefine its message if it wants any chance at resonating with the American public.

It is essential for the Democratic party to introspect and correct its course. If left unaddressed, such elitist attitude and divisive politics could potentially sink the entire party. The unity of the party, respect for the country’s rule book, and above all, basic human respect – the Democrats appear to have missed these markers in their political journey.
