Jill Biden Pushes Back On Kamala Harris Complaints About White House Support During 2024 Campaign

Former first lady Jill Biden insisted Sunday that she and Former President Joe Biden fully backed Kamala Harris during the Democrats’ disastrous 2024 election campaign, despite Harris later suggesting she was often left to fend for herself politically.

Speaking during an interview on CBS News’ “Sunday Morning,” Jill Biden rejected the idea that the Biden White House failed to support Harris after Joe Biden exited the race in July 2024.

“Oh, all out,” Jill said when asked about campaigning for Harris. “I was out on the trail, I think every single day. I traveled the entire country.”

The former first lady also claimed she was stunned by Harris’ eventual loss to President Donald Trump.

“Election night, I was certain she was going to win,” Jill Biden said. “The excitement for her and the crowds and, I mean, how people rallied around her, and I truly felt that she was going to win.”

“I was shocked she didn’t win, because I think she would be a good president,” she added.

The comments come as Harris has publicly aired frustrations about her treatment inside the Biden administration, particularly regarding attacks from Republicans and conservative media.

In her book “107 Days,” Harris complained that the White House often failed to defend her against criticism.

“When Fox News attacked me on everything from my laugh, to my tone of voice, to whom I’d dated in my 20s, or claimed I was a ‘DEI hire,’ the White House rarely pushed back with my actual résumé,” Harris wrote.

She also expressed irritation over a call from Former President Biden shortly before her debate against President Trump, writing that she “couldn’t understand why he would call me, right now, and make it all about himself.”

Harris later characterized Former President Biden’s decision to seek reelection as “recklessness” before he eventually dropped out of the race on July 21, 2024.

Despite massive fundraising totals and heavy media attention, Harris ultimately became the first Democratic nominee in two decades to lose the popular vote, while President Trump secured 326 Electoral College votes in his return to the White House.

The relationship between Harris and Jill Biden has reportedly been rocky since the 2020 Democratic primary, when Harris sharply criticized Joe Biden over his past opposition to federally mandated school busing.

According to reports at the time, Jill Biden was furious over the attack and opposed Harris becoming Biden’s running mate after the primary ended.

“There are millions of people in the United States,” Jill reportedly said privately after the clash. “Why do we have to choose the one who attacked Joe?”
