Minor League Team Forfeits Pride Night Game After Players Refuse To Wear Rainbow-Themed Jerseys

A Pennsylvania minor league baseball team forfeited its Thursday night game after several players refused to wear special Pride Night jerseys featuring a rainbow design.

The York Revolution announced with “great disappointment” that it would not play its scheduled contest against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and instead chose to forfeit the game.

The matchup was set to be the Revolution’s 11th annual Pride Night celebration at WellSpan Park.

“This decision was not reached lightly,” the team said in a statement. “Unfortunately, several of our players have refused to wear the scheduled Pride Night jersey and the club decided that hosting the event is more important than forcing players to wear jerseys they are not comfortable with and playing the game.”

Although the game itself was canceled, the organization moved forward with the remainder of its Pride Night festivities. Fan batting practice, ballpark tours and live music were still held and made available free to the public.

The team also emphasized that the players’ decision did not align with the organization’s values.

“To be clear; this action by the players is completely inconsistent with our vision as the Most Welcoming Place in York,” the statement read.

As a gesture of support for local LGBTQ organizations, the Revolution announced a $10,000 donation to the Rainbow Rose Center.

The organization said the donation was intended to support the center’s efforts to promote inclusion throughout the York community.

The team did not identify the players who refused to wear the Pride-themed jerseys, and no further details were provided about how many players were involved in the decision.

Fans who purchased tickets for the forfeited game were informed that their tickets can be exchanged for admission to any remaining 2026 regular-season home game.
