After statements made by both AG Merrick Garland and the U.S. attorney managing the proceedings against Hunter Biden, a well-known legal expert and academic called out the prosecutor.
Professor of law at Georgetown Jonathan Turley raised a number of problems with the assertion made by federal prosecutor David Weiss that the Justice Department did not impede his inquiry into Hunter’s criminal conduct in any manner.
Hunter’s federal inquiry was overseen by Weiss, and on June 20 the president’s son accepted a plea agreement as a result. Gary Shapley, an Internal Revenue Service whistleblower, first made charges that Weiss did not have complete authority over the inquiry before then, though.
In a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), Weiss refuted the charge. Shapley also claimed that Danny Werfel, the IRS commissioner, and Garland lied to Congress about the Hunter investigation.
“So, I just want to remind viewers from a week ago, Weiss, the prosecutor out of Delaware, sent a letter to Jim Jordan, and he seemed to outline his defense in four different parts. You have seen that letter. Do you have questions about the letter or do they satisfy you? And then I’ll ask you specifically about it, too,” Fox New’s Bill Hemmer asked Turley.
“No, there is nothing to be satisfied with because there’s no answers in the letter. That is, what Weiss is saying is, ‘I was given this authority,’ but doesn’t deal with the specific allegations of these whistleblowers,” Turley answered.
“We have numerous witnesses, and other witnesses who are named in these accounts, who were present at a meeting where Weiss allegedly said that he was not the final decision maker, that he had tried to become a special counsel and was denied, and they were also told that the charges were attempted in California and D.C., but rebuffed by those U.S. Attorneys,” he continued.
“That’s in direct and irreconcilable conflict with what has been said by Attorney General Garland. What Weiss is saying is, ‘I was given this authority,’ and so he’s got to answer to these discrepancies. But the problem that Weiss has is that the case itself is just a glaring mountain of contradiction,” he asserted.
“I mean, the Justice Department seemed to let the statute of limitations run. Some of us wrote columns before that date and said, ‘Why are you doing this? The statute’s about to run.’ These whistleblowers are saying that it did appear to be intentional, that there was an agreement that more serious charges could be brought against Hunter and those were scuttled,” Turley railed.
WATCH:
The New York Times verified Shapley’s statement that Weiss encountered challenges when trying to bring charges against Hunter in California.
Weiss had sought California prosecutors to file charges against Hunter, but his demand was turned down, according to independent verification by The Times. Shapley additionally disclosed to Congress that six more witnesses had stated that Weiss had told them in 2022 that he was unable to bring Hunter’s case outside of Delaware because he had been refused special counsel status.
Hunter’s plea agreement will ultimately be decided by a federal judge who was selected by former President Trump.
Biden made arrangements to enter guilty pleas to two tax-related misdemeanors and a charge involving an unauthorized weapons purchase, which is typically a felony. Others who had engaged in same crimes, in this case providing fraudulent data on a federal background check form, had already received prison sentences.
Regarding the tax fines, for the years 2017 and 2018, Biden failed to pay income tax on incomes of approximately $1.5 million annually.
“Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement,” Chris Clark, Hunter’s lawyer stated.
In other Hunter Biden news, the Secret Service and other legal professionals have outlined the steps that will be taken to find the person who carried cocaine into the White House, including reviewing video footage.
Regarding that, a number of individuals online have brought out Hunter Biden’s apparent weird conduct at a White House function.
Sadly, Hunter used cocaine as part of his substance abuse problem. While there is currently no proof that he is still using the drug or that he was the person carried it into the White House, a short video clip of Joe Biden’s son has people scratching their heads.
Joseph Biden can be seen in the video waving from a White House balcony with his family around him during the latest 4th of July holiday weekend. Hunter, who was also there, said goodbye to his wife and little boy and raised his palm to his nose, which fuelled rumors that he might be using cocaine.

Nothing to see here, LOOK CLOSELY as he wipes his nose
Who’s cocaine could it have possibly been found at the White House? The FBI is baffled! pic.twitter.com/FTEJ7rtQon

Hunter is so obviously strung out. 45 seconds between blinks and he’s jumpy and weird the entire time. pic.twitter.com/kplZvGDj77

There hasn’t been any publicly available proof or even an inclination that Hunter Biden is reusing it. But hardcore drugs are tough to quit. Especially if you’re stressed out and in the public spotlight for possibly taking massive bribes from foreign countries in order to give your powerful father major kickbacks.
I’m not saying Hunter Biden snorted cocaine at the White House but if he did, I would expect it to look exactly like this. pic.twitter.com/n3VykREfgq
