As the massive flow of illegal migrants over the southern border continues to overwhelm southern states as well as states that are receiving the migrants, it is hard to believe that anyone would be in favor of an open border.
The states that announced themselves “sanctuaries” for these migrants, such as New York, are now overwhelmed, and predictably, now at least one Democrat wants the entire country, including states that declared they would not receive migrants to foot the bill for this massive wave.
West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin hails from a red state full of conservatively-minded majority. He has in the past supported conservative values, a reflection of the people he represents.
But since 2022, he has become increasingly supportive of Biden’s leftist agenda. Many have speculated on his future in the Senate, as he’s up for re-election next year. His shift to the left, many will say, will not help his chances in the red state of West Virginia.
Recently, he commented on the exploding border crisis. Amazingly, for a representative of a red state, Sen. Manchin did not appear to advocate to deport these border crossers. Instead, he demands that the entire country support the invasion regardless of the wishes of those residing in states that have protested the illegal immigrant wave.
On Friday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) argued that the federal government shouldn’t be responsible for every migrant in the country and “Every state should be bidding” on taking migrants and then they’d “be responsible to make sure they’re acclimated to our way of life.”
PJ Newslatter states:
Sen. Manchin appeared to be encouraging what some have called the “replacement” conspiracy theory. At first, he seemed to be complaining about illegal entrants stepping onto American soil and receiving government handouts.
But his solution is sure to upset many Americans. He suggested that every state should be “bidding” on taking migrants. He claimed that orchards in West Virginia need workers to pick crops. Instead of encouraging farms to hire Americans, Manchin apparently wants outsiders to do this.
For decades, businesses have relied on migrant workers so they could pay them less than Americans. Democrats have all but admitted that they want to bring in more migrants, who can take these jobs.
Manchin appears to be calling for all states to share the burden of the 3 million illegal crossers that have entered since Biden took office. He said this only after blue states like New York have become overrun with migrants.
The senate did not seem to be advocating for this when only Texas was overwhelmed with migrants.
Manchin said on the show, “Every state should be bidding on, we can take 50,000 workers in West Virginia, I’m just saying hypothetically, and then you’re going to be responsible to make sure they’re acclimated to our way of life.”
So Manchin thinks we should ignore the fact that the entrants should be used to fill sub standard wage jobs and the legal aspects of their entering the country ignored.
He is also saying that the state which reeives the workers should be then responsible for those migrants, who receiving low wage jobs in harvesting, fwill be in the social service system. Those states would then be responsible for social services needed by the migrants.
It is interesting to not ethat during former President Donald Trump’s administration, American wages reached historic levels because of his restrictions on immigration. At that time, companies were urged to hire Americans and pay them well because they were deprived of cheap migrant labor.
Rhetoric describing those coming over the border range from “immigrants” and “migrants” to “refugees” but given the legal measures involved with screening those who enter the Unites States legally, the massive increase in numbers is sue to those entering illegally at points inbetween the actual entrance areas, walking or swimming across unpatrolled sections of the border.
During the Biden Administration, the illegal flow over the border has hit warp speed. The latest Customs and Border PRotection statistics reflect that while in 2022 a massive 2.7 million migrants had “encounters with authorities” (entering illegally) and in the number rose to 2.8 million so far in 2023, with the number stilll climbing.
Not just from the close countries like Mexico in Central America, migrants are also coming from South American, the Caribbean, and a number are Chinese.
The number of seizures of fentynol and children found to be trafficked show that the criminal aspect is a large, if not all, part of the flow.
Former President Trump’s wall and border initiatives contiained the flow, but the border crisis has been ignored by the current Biden administration and now it seems there are plans to use those migrants in jobs rather than hire U.S. citizens.
With the 2024 election looming, and with Trump’s massive lead over other candidates, it is interesting to note that once these folks are working in the U.S., voting is next.
