President Trump praised Ron DeSantis in a new “Pod Force One” interview and declined to rule out the Florida governor as a possible future attorney general.
“Ron’s very good,” Trump told host Miranda Devine when asked about speculation surrounding DeSantis potentially joining the administration following the firing of former Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“People thought of different names. There are some good names,” Trump added, while noting DeSantis himself has “never talked about” wanting the position.
Once bitter rivals during the 2024 Republican presidential primary, Trump and DeSantis have since repaired their relationship and worked closely together on major Republican priorities, including immigration enforcement and redistricting efforts.
Trump’s previous campaign-trail attacks against DeSantis, including the nickname “Ron DeSanctimonious,” have largely disappeared in favor of public praise.
“He’s a governor and doing a very good job,” Trump said.
“Ron’s good. He’s a friend of mine. He just named an airport after me,” the president added. “They named the Palm Beach International Airport the Donald J. Trump International Airport.”
DeSantis signed legislation earlier this year renaming the airport commonly used during Trump’s visits to Mar-a-Lago. The governor also backed efforts to establish Trump’s presidential library in Miami.
“That’s a great honor,” Trump said of the airport tribute.
Despite the speculation, Trump also praised acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and suggested he is pleased with the Justice Department’s current leadership.
“I wanted to see how he’s received … and he’s done a very good job,” Trump said of Blanche, who previously served as his personal attorney.
The president added that he does not currently have a replacement in mind.
“There are a lot of great people,” Trump said. “The Republican Party — we have great people.”
