In an unexpected turn of events within the current civil litigation, former President Donald Trump has declared a notable victory in a court located in New York City. In his address to the press outside the courtroom on Monday afternoon, Trump asserted that, according to the judge’s recent comments, a substantial portion of the case against him, estimated to be around 80%, is expected to be dismissed.
“Well, I think that was very good. That last five minutes was outstanding because the judge essentially conceded that the statute of limitations that we won at the Court of Appeals is in effect. Therefore, about 80 percent of the case is over,” Trump said, reflecting on a crucial point in the trial.
This occurrence transpired subsequent to Judge Arthur Engoron’s denial of Trump’s plea to postpone the civil trial a mere week ago. Letitia James, the Attorney General of New York, initiated a legal action against Donald Trump, his offspring, and the Trump Organization, asserting claims of fraudulent conduct. The allegations revolved around President Trump’s purported inflation of his net worth by billions of dollars, as well as the alleged participation of his children in these misrepresentations.
In spite of the gravity of the accusations, President Trump has continuously voiced criticism towards the ongoing procedures. The individual conveyed their discontent with their lack of entitlement to a jury trial, a right they perceive as fundamental within the United States.
“As you know, we’re not entitled to a jury, which is pretty unusual in the United States of America. So we think it’s very unfair that I don’t have a jury,” Trump remarked. Nevertheless, he acknowledged the impartiality of the court in the recent legal processes.
In an attempt to get more information, Trump asked one of his attorneys to respond to the judge’s remarks. “Based on the judge’s comments at the end of the trial today, it would appear that he is agreeing that all the transactions that closed prior to 2014 are now out of the case,” Trump’s legal team offered insight. He went on to say that this would explain roughly eighty percent of the cases.
The former president, who frequently refers to the probe as a “witch hunt,” has been outspoken in his opinion that it is politically motivated.
“Just arrived at the courthouse to fight a corrupt & racist Attorney General, and a rogue, out of control, Trump hating judge, who refuses to follow the appellate court decision which knocks out 80% of this sham case,” Trump posted on Truth Social earlier on Monday.
“This is the continuation of the greatest witch hunt of all time. Election interference!” the 2024 leading GOP candidate wrote.
