The highly anticipated interview between Megyn Kelly and former President Donald Trump, which will be her first in seven years, is expected to be tense and “spicy.”
The Megyn Kelly Show host broke the news in a Twitter video, revealing that the live interview will run on SiriusXM on Thursday at 12.
Kelly conveyed her excitement and assured the audience that the interview will be quite interesting. This scene may also become viral, based on the responses on X, the platform that was originally known as Twitter.
‘I’m really looking forward to this,’ she said in the video. ‘It’s going to be great, it’s going to be spicy, and it’s going to be tough, but it’s going to be good and hopefully, we’re both going to enjoy it.’
Their connection was marked by a fierce rivalry that culminated during the 2015 Republican primary campaign, and this interview is their first on-air discussion since May 2016.
‘We’re going to have a lot of time to dive into a variety of things in person,’ Kelly said, implying the breadth of their upcoming conversation.
She thanked Trump for agreeing to the interview and made it clear that she is neither a supporter nor a critic of him.
‘I’m very glad that he agreed to do it. He’s not saying yes to everyone,’ she said. ‘And to his credit, you know, Donald Trump knows that I’m not somebody who suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome like the vast majority of people in the media, but I’m also not a sycophant, so I’m not going to go in there and be a bootlicker.’
‘I’m really looking forward to bringing you this one and many more to come,’ the journalist added. ‘It’s going to be fun, and he can handle it perfectly well.’
Kelly was joined in conversation by Ric Grenell, the former acting director of US national intelligence, who praised her fair and stern interviewing style.
‘So many people have been thinking about the last time you interviewed him,’ Grenell said about the anticipated interview.
‘I kind of flashed back while you were talking about being in your studio at Fox when we both worked at Fox, and that was during the presidential [election] and we had so many times where we talked about different issues with Trump,’ he added.
‘And I think it’s true. I think you were tough, and I think the way that you just said it is that you’re not a ‘never Trumper’ but you’re not a sycophant. And credit to Donald Trump. He’s been doing interviews where he mixes it up and isn’t afraid to get in there.’
Kelly responded, recognizing Trump’s evident magnetism and considering their previous disagreements: ‘There’s no question he has a natural magnetism. Whether you love him or hate him, that is indisputable. I’m sorry, it’s just a fact.’
‘He walks into the room, even before he was president, but especially post and there’s an air that must be paid attention to,’ she added. ‘That’s just who he is. It’s a lifetime of celebrity and now becoming really the most famous man in the world. So I’m very glad that all that nonsense between us is water under the bridge.’
‘The left freaked out at those comments, entire podcasts were devoted to those comments. Like ‘Oh my god, what’s happened to Megyn Kelly? She’s bent the knee.’ They need me to hate him for some reason. They need as many sort of foils to Donald Trump as they can get. And if they think you’re one and you turn out not to be, they become apoplectic. It’s just like a robotic chip has malfunctioned.’
The news of the interview was made public barely two months after Kelly gave Trump some encouraging remarks, which was a major turning point in their tumultuous relationship.
Years after getting into a furious online and on national television spat with the Republican, Kelly opened up about her relationship with Trump in July.
The long-standing hostility between the two appeared to be put behind them when the remarks were made on Monday at a Megyn Kelly Show taping.
Kelly praised the 77-year-old firebrand after claiming to have had a “one-on-one” talk with him. A few years prior, the firebrand had called Kelly “crazy” and a “bimbo.”
Kelly, who had met the former president at a Turning Point USA conference in Palm Beach, remarked that it was “frankly great to see him.”
‘When he came into the arena, we met just one on one, his team was standing nearby, but he and I got a one on one together for the first time in years and it was, frankly great to see him. ‘
Kelly remarked, “All that nonsense between us is under the bridge” in reference to their previous arguments, which included a particularly scathing remark from Trump following the debate that seemed to equate her line of questioning to the remarks of a menstrual person.
‘He could not have been more magnanimous,’ she added.
