Following widespread attacks on Israeli territory over the weekend, a statement made by former President Donald Trump last month—following the Biden Administration’s announcement that it had agreed to a prisoner exchange that would give the Iranian regime access to over $6 billion in funds—became extremely relevant.
In exchange for $6 billion in Iranian cash held in South Korea, the Biden Administration revealed on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks that it had successfully negotiated the release of five American citizens who had been detained in Iran for an extended period of time. The American sanctions against the Islamic Republic have resulted in the freezing of the funds.
The deal, negotiated by Qatar, also included the release of five Iranian prisoners detained in American jails.

Following the attacks that have resulted in at least 600 Israeli deaths and at least 100 hostages, a message denouncing the agreement from previous President Donald Trump has surfaced. The president had warned that the arrangement would incite violence in the area.
After the announcement of the partnership, Trump wrote in a post on TruthSocial:
“Can you believe that Crooked Joe Biden is giving $6 Billion to the terrorist regime in Iran? That money be used for terrorism all over the Middle East, and, indeed, the World. This incompetent FOOL is absolutely destroying America.”
“He had the audacity to announce this terrible deal today, September 11th,” Trump continued. “To pay for hostages will lead to kidnapping, ransom, and blackmail against Americans across the globe. I freed many dozens of our people from various unfriendly countries and never paid a dime!”

The former president made reference to Iran’s possible role in the assaults once more on Saturday when he released a statement endorsing Israel.
“These Hamas attacks are a disgrace and Israel has every right to defend itself with overwhelming force,” Trump wrote in a press release.
“Sadly, American taxpayer dollars helped fund these attacks, which many reports are saying came from the Biden Administration,” the statement continued. “We brought so much peace to the Middle East through the Abraham Accords, only to see Biden whittle it away at a far more rapid pace than anyone thought possible.”
The strikes have resulted in the loss of over 600 Israeli civilians and military personnel, with more than 100 individuals, including children and elderly individuals, being abducted and sent to the Gaza Strip. During an interview with Meet The Press, Anthony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the United States, conveyed that there is a possibility that a certain number of American citizens may have been either assassinated or abducted.
