On Wednesday, President Donald Trump, expressed his intention to remain a candidate in the 2024 election, despite four indictments over him, indicating his unwillingness to withdraw from the campaign.
Former President Trump is currently confronted with two indictments, one from Special Counsel Jack Smith, another from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, and a third from Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. A number of Republicans has perceived these legal actions as politically motivated assaults on the former president.
During an interview with radio program host Hugh Hewitt, President Trump was queried about his willingness to temporarily halt his reelection campaign in the event that all three prosecutors extended an offer to dismiss the charges against him.
Hewitt inquired of the former president: “If Jack Smith and Fani Willis and Alvin Bragg all get together and they come see you at Bedminster or Mar-A-Lago and they say to you, ‘We will drop everything, it will all go away if you withdraw from the race and politics.’ Will you take that deal?”

Trump responded definitely, saying, “I have no interest. You know me well enough. No interest. Absolutely no interest. I think they’d make that deal right now. That’s what it’s all about — this is interfering with an election. And all those fools that write, that ‘oh, they really want Trump to win,’ they changed it, actually. So now, they say they did it in order to keep me strong. They thought this was going to take me down, this was not going to keep me strong.”
“This has never happened before where somebody got indicted and ended up the polls went up by 20% or 25% or something. No, no, if they came to me and they would do that, they would make that deal in two seconds,” Trump continued.

According to the RealClearPolitics (RCP) average, which aggregates polls completed from August 24th to August 31st, the results suggest that Donald Trump is currently leading a competitive group of candidates in the 2024 national Republican primary by a significant margin of approximately 40 points.
According to polling data, there has been a consistent widening of the gap between former President Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis since Trump’s initial indictment in late March.
On March 30, Bragg charged Trump for purportedly engaging in the falsification of business documents during the process of reimbursement of a hush money payment to his former attorney, Michael Cohen. This payment was made to the pornographic film actress, Stormy Daniels, with the intention of ensuring her silence regarding an alleged extramarital relationship.
In early June, Smith brought charges against the former president, accusing him of mishandling secret data. Subsequently, in early August, Smith also filed charges against Trump, alleging his involvement in the events of January 6th and his purported intervention in the 2020 election.
On August 14, Willis issued an indictment against the former president, accusing him of purportedly interfering in Georgia’s 2020 election.
Even if Trump did take a deal, his supporters have expressed their intention to cast write-in ballots in support of the former president during the upcoming 2024 presidential election, in the event that he is deemed ineligible to run again based on the provisions outlined in the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.
According to this regulation, those who have sworn an oath to uphold the constitution of the United States, but subsequently participated in acts of insurrection or rebellion, are prohibited from assuming any position, whether it be in the civil or military sector.
Several prominent members of the Democratic Party have speculated that the 14th Amendment may potentially serve as a legal obstacle preventing Donald Trump from pursuing a presidential candidacy in the year 2024.
Those in favor of Trump have expressed their commitment to continue supporting him as a write-in candidate on X, previously referred to as Twitter, even in the event of his disqualification. In a publication affiliated with Alex Jones, namely National File, writer Charles Downs expressed the view that “A lot of Americans will write in Trump if he is illegally removed off the ballot. That being said, it’s more likely than not SCOTUS [Supreme Court of the United States] will block efforts to kick Trump off the ballot. In America the people, not the Deep State, choose the president.”

Amy Kremer, one of the co-founders of Women for Trump, shared an image depicting the mugshot of the former president in Georgia, along with a statement expressing, “If Trump is removed from the ballot, I will write him in.”

Kremer was the main organizer of the March for Trump cross-country bus tour that culminated with Trump’s speech at the Ellipse in DC on January 6. She and her organization, Women for America First, condemned the violence that a few participated in that day.
