Witnesses For First Biden Impeachment Inquiry Announced

Since Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced impeachment proceedings against current President Joe Biden on September 12, the House Oversight Committee has been busy lining up their case.

The first impeachment hearing is being scheduled for Thursday, titled “The Basis For An Impeachment Inquiry of President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.” Committee chairman James Comer (R-Ky) told reporters last week that the hearing would most likely cover ground that has already been reported.

But now, a list of witnesses who will be testifying at the hearing has been released by Comer, along with some additional details.

The hearing will examine the value of an impeachment inquiry and review evidence uncovered by House Republicans surrounding the Biden family’s business dealings with foreign nationals.

The hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, September 28. It will be streamed to the public.

In a press release by Comer, witnesses who will be testifying Thursday have been announced.

The three witnesses are George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley, former Assistant Attorney General Eileen O’Connor, and forensic accounting specialist Bruce Dubinsky.

The Hill reported on the witnesses:

Eileen O’Connor is a former assistant attorney general of the tax division at the Department of Justice who served under George W. Bush’s administration and was also a member of the Trump transition team. She penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal titled, “You’d go To Prison For What Hunter Biden Did.”

Her LinkedIn shows her re-posting videos critiquing responses to climate change, while another post from her warns that the Biden administration is “enabling the invasion at the border.”

She spent six years as the assistant attorney general for DOJ tax matters, where she oversaw DOJ litigation in civil, criminal, trial, and appellate tax cases.

Bruce Dubinsky is a longtime forensic accountant who has previously weighed in on Hunter Biden’s business finances for Fox News. His LinkedIn account notes he is also a media contributor, and he has weighed in on other major tax cases, including reporting around former President Donald Trump’s taxes.

He also specializes in financial crimes, has worked in the sector for more than 40 years, and has served as an expert witness on more than 100 occasions.

The third witness scheduled for Thursday, Jonathan Turley, is a nationally recognized legal expert who has published numerous works on constitutional law and legal theory.

Turley is a law professor at George Washington University and a regular conservative commentator. Republicans also called him as a witness at the first meeting of the subcommittee formed by the GOP to review purported “weaponization” of the federal government.

It seems the committee has done their homework with a stellar line-up of experts who are experienced with the legal aspects of the case and are practiced at commenting on such.

Comer’s Monday press release also provides some additional information:

“Since January, House Committees on Oversight and Accountability, Judiciary, and Ways and Means have uncovered an overwhelming amount of evidence showing President Joe Biden abused his public office for his family’s financial gain.

Thousands of pages of financial records, emails, texts, testimony from credible IRS whistleblowers, and a transcribed interview with Biden family business associate Devon Archer all reveal that Joe Biden allowed his family to sell him as ‘the brand’ around the world to enrich the Biden family. Joe Biden showed up on at least two dozen occasions to send signals of access, influence, and power to those who were paying the Bidens.”

Comer’s press release continues:

“Based on the evidence, Congress has a duty to open an impeachment inquiry into President Biden’s corruption. Americans demand and deserve answers, transparency, and accountability for this abuse of public office. This week, the House Oversight Committee will present evidence uncovered to date and hear from legal and financial experts about crimes the Bidens may have committed as they brought in millions at the expense of U.S. interests.”

The connections between the current president and his son Hunter Biden regarding the exchanging hands of monies originating from foreign entities will certainly be addressed in the hearing, given the background of the witnesses. The connection between the Bidens and the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma will certainly come up.

Republicans have also alleged that Biden received millions of dollars in payments from foreign businesses, Newsweek reports.

Hunter Biden is already facing charges on separate and connected crimes.

The Biden administration does not seem to be taking the impeachment seriously. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has called the action a “political stunt” and President Biden ridiculously told donors at a recent fundraiser in Virginia, “I don’t know why, but they just knew they wanted to impeach me.”

Biden continued in denial, “Now, the best I can tell, they want to impeach me because they want to shut down the government.”

A far cry from comments the Democrats made when attempting to impeach President Trump.
